Carbon appetit

Get this down ya neck. For anyone who hasn't seen them yet here are some preview pictures of the exciting new Deshi Carbon skates in both colourways. We think this is the most exciting aggressive skate release in years. Deshi say it will "set a new standard in skate technology" and you know what, we think they might be right! The main difference between these and other aggressive skates is that they use real Carbon Fibre to construct the rigid parts of the boot (the parts that would usually be plastic/polyurethane/UHMW). Carbon fibre is super stong while simutaniously being REALLY light! The other fundamental difference is that the skate doesn't have a removable liner, you literally put your foot in the shell which is lined with comfortable (we hope) padding. Of course, K2 were doing one-piece skates with no removable liner years ago, but Deshi are clearing stepping up the game here. The advantage of not having a removable liner is that you can down-size the skate in it's respective size as it no longer has to accomodate the volume of a thick liner. This of course makes the whole skate less bulky and also lighter. Also, the very fact that there will not be a big, bulky liner in the skate will of course mean that the skate will be reduced in weight as a direct result. Check out the soul-kits too. They are the thinest, lowest profile souls we have seen on any skate to date! We've been saying somebody should make something like this for years!. After seeing some of the carbon fibre, light, one-piece boots on the inline hockey market this was always going to be the obvious next progression for aggressive skates. Other parts of the skate are made out of Kevlar and leather to ensure they are very hard wearing. They are reported to weigh 935g for a size uk8 with souls. Deshi say this is 30% lighter than any other skate on the market. This isn't strictly true as by our calculations they are only 13% lighter than the Roces M12. Still, pedantic-ness aside that still makes them pretty darn light! The skate is due for release in the UK mid-December, however I wouldn't hold your breath as a delay on a product like this wouldn't be unheard of! They are going to be expensive, for good reason. The quality, research and materials are second to none so we reckon they are going to be in the £200 boot-only range! Don't complain! Someone has finally come through and made a product for those people who want to be equipped to be at the very highest level in our sport. It can only be a good thing.

Jenna World Champion

LocoSkates rider Jenna Downing is officially the best female rollerblader in the world...according to the LG world championships competition at least! Jenna stormed to victory in the girls street competition at the LG WORLD FINALS in Seattle last week beating her nearest rival Fallen Heffernan by a full 10 points giving her a score of 87.75 which is the HIGHEST SCORE EVER TO BE ACHEIVED BY A FEMALE ATHLETE. The LG finals, formerly the ASA is the biggest rollerblading competition in the world with the most media coverage and the biggest prize fund. Jenna has been hit with a barrage of T.V and newspaper work since she has been back, she said "I'm so Happy". It's just another day in the office for our Jenna though, nice work Jen! The LG mens competition was won by Franky Morales (see the mental footage below).

Frankly Amazing

Check out this incredible peice of footage of Franky Morales at the LG Action Sports event in Seattle, USA. Franky just keeps pushing the boundries, doing the seemingly un-doable! Incidently LocoSkates very own Jenna Downing WON the girls event! Franky won the mens event with Stephane 'Eric Cantona' Alforno in second and David Sizemore in third.

Slamm Jamm Edit

Thanks so much to Sven Boekhorst (who incidently took second place at Slamm Jamm) for this video edit of the event. Check out Elliot Stevens, Steve Swain, Demetrious George, Nick Lomax, Sven himself, Rob Pruett and more killing the biggest skatepark in Europe. ...and yes, that's right, there really is a SvenBoekhorst.com! After you've watched the edit why don't you make your way over there a pay your respects to the Dutch legend!

Slamm Jamm Results

Nick Lomax came through to win the £3500 prize and the title of the Slamm Jamm battle Royale winner. He battled Sven Boekhurst in the final to become victorious. The 'Kings Own' competition (which is the amateur comp) was won by Rob Pruett. Joe Harvey won the open competition and the day finished with an immense best trick comp which had loads of entries from high profile skaters. It was a really close call but the £1000 prize was eventually split between Oli Short (who dropped in the big wallride from the rafters) and Steven Swain who did various tricks, each worthy of being the 'best trick'. Keep your eyes on Loco for an edit of the event as soon as one becomes available. Pictured: Battle Royale winner Nick Lomax. Photo: Balmore

SlammJamm Update

Day 1 of Slamm Jamm took place yesterday (Friday). The competitions on the Friday were mainly to qualify skaters for the finals on the Saturday and took place in the Unique 'battle' format that Slamm Jamm is famous for. Each skater is picked at random using a lottery style 'pick balls out of a bag method'. After the two skaters who are going to battle each other are picked then the obstacle they are going to battle on is also picked at random out of a bag. The two skaters then get 1 minute to battle each other on that obstacle and a single judge (Domonic Sagona was yesterdays judge) decides who wins and who loses. The loser is eliminated from the competition and the winner goes through to the finals. There was two comps yesterday, one was open and one was Amateur (to qualify for today's 'Battle Royale' pro final). Skaters who qualified in this competition included Elliot Stevens (who got the biggest props of the day for killing the handrail), Matt Chilvers (AO topsoul to top-sunny on the rail), Leon Humphries (Fishbrain on the B-Unique sub-box), Rob Pruett (killed the driveway grind box) and Zac Whitelaw. Stay tuned to LocoSkates.com for more results from todays finals.

Slamm Jamm Here We Come

The wonders of technology these days! Here we are, Friday morning, M23, on the way to Slamm Jamm 10 in the back of the Razors 'rider' (Razors' Mike Welland's car). Internet connection provided by Loco rider James Deans! (pictured). It's looking like like a fine weekend for the 10th annual event held in Liverpool. Who knows, with this whole mobile internet thing you might even get some live updates straight from the event with what's going down as it happens (if we're not too busy rollerblading). Keep your eye on Loco. We'll make sure we are one of the first, if not the first to bring you the winners from the event.

Adam Kola Photo gallery

What A-dam good collection of photos! The UK's very own Adam Kola, who is internationally recognised for his massive contribution to rollerblading photography over the last 10 years has put up an online portfolio of some of his favourite shots. The website also highlights his ability to also take amazing non-skating shots. Check it all out at adamkola.com. Maybe this website will help him get some more EXPOSURE!!!

Well the Powerslide Conference have just released the new USD Venom '09 skate (speaking of buses!) and also the new Deshi CH1 White (and gold!) will come out this week, which I think you'll agree, looks just great. You can buy the new USD Legacy Venom 2 skates HERE and buy Deshi CH1 White skates HERE. The next couple of months will see a load of new releases, as always, in time for Xmas. The Razors Icon 2, the limited addition Valo Alex Broskow and Arlo skates and also more new USD skates with the Richie Eisler Classic Throne, the Allstar '09 Classic Throne and the USD Evo '09 in a 'love it or hate it' move and grey colourway. Ken-damn son!

Frankie Morales is damn good at Kendama! Check out this video the Remz international pro posted on YouTube of him KILLING the traditional Japanese throw and catch game. For anyone who doesn't know what Kendama is yet, it's described as 'A Japanese toy that consists of a hammer-like object with a ball connected to it by a string. The ball (called the tama) has a hole in it, and it rests on a spike (the ken) on the top of the kendama. The two sides of the "hammer" are concave dishes; one is smaller than the other. The basic object is to throw the ball upwards and land it on one of the concave dish parts of the "hammer", as well as landing the ball on the spike.' Loads of bladers have been getting into it in the states and now you can buy Kendama in the uk at LocoSkates.com! At the moment we've got the Yomega ones at only £6.99 with with wooden ones following shortly. Click HERE to find them in our online shop.

Scot on!

If you're browsing the net trying to find intresting Rollerblading articles (which, let's face it, is probably why you are reading this now) then cyber yourself over to Scottishrolling.com! This super fresh looking website documents anything 'rollerblading' in Scotland and is the brainchild of roots Scottish rollers James Keyte and Chris Doughty. It's absolutely packed with sick footage as you could only expect from our hammer-throwing friends across the boarder. The scene in Scotland is so strong and so sick that it's well worth keeping an eye on this site for the weekly edits and constant stream of new footage. Also, if you don't live too far away check out Scottish Rolling's Monthly Session. The next one is likely to take place around the 25th October. Keep an eye on the website for confirmation of the date and where in Scotland it will take place.

How to set up Remz skates

Genuinely, I've often found myself wondering how Chris Haffey sets up his Remz skates. I mean, he IS the best skater in the world to be skating Remedy skates and there IS quite alot of ways to customise them, whether it be taking out the cuff, or losing the velcro strap or cutting a v-cut in the back! Surely if anyone knows the best way to do it it's Haffey! Well check out this video just released by Remz on how Chris himself thinks you should set up the new Remedy 08 Three skates.

Jamm Packed

Slamm Jamm creator Dave Bell has been saying it since it began, but for the tenth year running "The Gathering is Near"! SLAMM JAMM, one of the biggest dates on the Rollerblading calender is just around the corner and will take place as usual at Rampworx skatepark in Liverpool on the 17th + 18th October (Friday evening and Saturday). This year's Slamm Jamm is probably the most 'thought about' event the UK has ever seen. Instead of sending us posters for the event they sent us a CLOCK!...no, really! Look at the picture. There's loads of stuff going on over the two days including an arts exhibition and afterparties. All the exciting news relating to Slamm Jamm is on their website, go check it out HERE. You might wanna get on the case booking a hotel RIGHT NOW though cos Liverpool seems to have far too many visitors on weekends and not enough hotels. FREE STICKERS: I'll be on the microphone this year so come and bother me to get your free Loco stickers! See you there. je (7th Oct, 12:35)

New REMZ Skate

The new Remedy Skates have landed! This week saw the release of the Remz 08 Three; the original style Remedy (as opposed to the Open Shell style). The skate is available in the online shop from now. I think you'll agree it's looking pretty FRESHHHH with it's light grey and black colourway. It comes with Featherlite 2's frames this time (ignore the FL1's in the pic!) and all the other standard features you've come to expect from Remz skates. Here's a picture. We'll upload a promotional video as soon as Remedy release one. 1st October '08 16:45

New Loco Site Drops!

Ab-rah Kerdabrah! Like a rabbit out a hat the new LocoSkates website appears, as if we haven't been stressing over it for the last year ...right before your eyes! Yep, it's been a headache but we got there in the end. Now, not only can we bring you the best service as usual, but we can do it with an unmatched interface! There's a few changes, all for the better. Firstly there is now a small delivery charge for items under £75...don't fret though! You'll find that generally these smaller items are now cheaper as our previous price had to take into account the cost of delivery. We still have the lowest prices in the UK and if you see it cheaper we will beat it. We now do a free size swap if you order an item that is the wrong size, meaning you won't have to pay for re-delivery. You now will set-up a personal account the first time you buy from the online shop. This takes about 45 seconds and means you don't have to keep re-entering your personal details every time you return to buy something which must have been getting pretty annoying for our regular customers! There is now more products in the shop including a huge range of recreational skates and non-rollerblading related items such as Waveboards and Heely's so you can now buy your little brother his Xmas present from Loco! We now have a drop down box with a choice of free gifts with skates rather than being allocated a free DVD. Your whole shopping experience should now be a whole lot more pleasurable. We are hoping there is no significant teething problems but if you spot something out of place or are having any trouble then call us or email us at loco_skates@hotmail.com and you will get a prompt personal reply. 1st Oct '08 16:44

Rate-A-Skate

First of all the inevitable news is, with the launch of the new Loco website, there is no longer a LocoSkates messageboard/forum. The reason for this is that we are putting all our efforts into providing you with the best shopping experience possible! ..the forum was just distracting us from this, plus, the forum was dead anyway! To ask shop or product questions just email, call or MySpace us and you will receive a prompt reply (much quicker than you would have done on the forum). You can still have your say on LocoSkates.com though! You can now review and rate any product in the online shop! Just find a product you have tested out and click 'Write a review'. You can rate and review thems positively or negatively as long as it is constructive (non-constructive reviews will be moderated!). If it's your first time reviewing or buying from the new site you will be prompted to set up an account (even if you had bought from the old website). This is REAL QUICK and means you can whizz through the process the next time you do it. So get reviewing. We're looking forward to your opinions! 1st Oct '08 16:46
